My research asks about the historical connections between sound, weather and place, through archival research and writing practices. My specialisms are in historical sound, with particular reference to the lighthouse service, as well as Britain in the 19th Century, specifically regarding the development of acoustic and meteorological science and the maritime environment. My research operates within sensory history and historical sound studies. It is involved with contemporary and historical engagements with environmental sound, with a specialisms in historical sound, particularly the lighthouse service, Britain in the 19th Century, and the development of acoustic and meteorological science and the maritime environment.
